Names, features and looks...

Updated: Jul 26, 2023

As announced last month, we're stepping up from "bare circuitboard" Proof of Concepts towards prototypes. This means that we had to come up with product names, features and desired looks; within produceable and (for some boring reason :-) ) financial boundaries.

You've probably already discovered the Discovery, if not: read here!

We also have a tool to demonstrate the technology at exhibitions. That deserves a cool name and obviously, catchy looks to attract attention. So we went looking at some astronomy words... and came to 'Protostar'.

"Star Formation

As the cloud collapses, the material at the center begins to heat up. Known as a protostar, it is this hot core at the heart of the collapsing cloud that will one day become a star." - NASA

Sounds cool, right? We can also read Protostar as "the prototype that is the star of the show"; so we find it's a perfectly matching word. And if it sounds cool, it has the right to look cool, so this will be an interesting case to work on!

It has quite different requirements than the ruggedness of the Discovery. The Protostar has to be easy to use, impressive and elegant at the same time. It should be portable, so light weight is a must.
